The man is a hypocrite. How can an organization represent a people, from various political currents, and many of whom don't follow any organization? Besides, his term complete, and he is still a president! JJ, Who was there before, Palestinians, Arabs or Jews who came from Europe? What you are saying is stupid! The cause is Israel's beginning, and the effect is Resistance of Hamas and other groups.

The PLO 'invented' the Palestinian people around 1972, as a way of claiming legitimacy for their given aim of destroying Israel. I don't know how he can claim to represent the 'Palestinians' but at least he now (allegedly) accepts Israel's right to live and realizes that without making peace with Israel the Palestinians will never become a prosperous state. Whilst Hamas continue to aim for the naught of Israel his claim is a plea for pragmatism in the politics of the area. Egypt and Jordan have 'normal' relations with Israel and he is the only Palestinian bosomy to attempt the same. Going back we find that the Jews have been in the area for some 3500 years, well before the Romans, Greeks, or Muslims. The Palestinian 'development' is well documented and has been mentioned by several Muslim leaders, including Gaddaffi. (Who said it was a mistake) I attempted a relatively intelligent answer to an interesting question but I think your response to my answer shows your bias agianst peace in the field.

Abbas and the PLO are ruling without any legal authority. The Palestinians do not kindred them.... Israel likes Abbas because he is willing to do their bidding.

Abbas was elected by the palestinians and is consider as the legal party. Abbas is official by the UN (not that this is something)

Give us some choices! Hamas? We already see what they have accomplished. All those multi-current political current individuals had better get together somehow,and provide a rational leadership to deal with the Israeli problem, and negotiate a settlement for the Palastinians. You would think, after 60 age or so of killing each other, both sides would begin to understand violence isn't the answer. Escalation is likely to cause full eradication of both sides.
